Meet the NYC cast of “The Institute”

We’ve assembled an all-star, veteran cast for the New York City staged-readings/ premiere of The Institute Jan. 25-26 at Xavier High School in Manhattan. Performances, which are free to the public, will take place each evening at 7:30, lasting roughly two hours

The cast (and characters they will play):

ALAN ALTSCHULER (DANNY/MR. DONALAN) Alan’s favorite New York City theater roles include Polonius (Hamlet); Baylor (A Lie of the Mind); Oberon (A Midsummer Night’s Dream);Creon (The People vs. Antigone); Pastor Manders (Ghosts); Rick (Bigfoot Stole MyWife); Helge (Festen); The President (Crazy Lady of Chaillot); Serebryakov (UncleVanya); Dr. Dorn (The Seagull); Rev. Samuel Gardner (Mrs. Warren’s Profession);Duncan (Macbeth); and Judge Randolph (A Few Good Men). Film roles includePerformance; Off Hour; and The Devil’s Dolls. STAN BUTURLA (SHAMUS/PATER LINGUA) Stan has acted in varied roles such as Coriolanus at The Soho Rep to Teddy from The Homecoming at The Classic Stage Company. His last two performances were both at Theater for the New City where he most recently played the philosopher Ernst Cassirer. He has also performed in movies and TV. He is currently working on a one-man cabaret show to be performed in New York City in 2019.

MARJORIE CONN (JOAN/MRS. O’MALLEY) made her acting debut with the late, great Ethyl Eichelberger as his leading man playing Aegisthus to his Klytemnestra with her lover, the late, incomparable Katy Dierlam as Electra. She was given an award by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force for her contributions to theatre in Provincetown. Marjorie is most known for her portrayal of Lizzie Borden (ax murderess) and Lorena Hickok (Eleanor Roosevelt’s lover). These plays which she wrote are published in LOST LESBIAN LIVES. She founded the Provincetown Fringe Festival in Provincetown, MA in 1994, which relocated to Asbury Park, N.J. from 2007 to 2015. ISA GOLDBERG (SARAH/MISS SALVATI) Isa’s career started as a theater reporter, and she later became Drama Desk president. She studied acting with Alice Spivak, and Paul Michael, and has worked on the New York Stage, in The People VS. Antigone, by Brandon Walker of The Seeing Place, and in the long-running hit, A Sketch of New York. Television: Mysteries at the Museum, Six Degrees of Murder, and Homicide for the Holidays. She is in the upcoming feature, Stronger Than Pretty, and in Michael Kelberg’s comedy short, You Got Ma’amed.

JENNIFER J. JOSEPH (KATHY O’MALLEY/KATHY BRENNAN) A veteran of the stage, Jennifer appeared in numerous off/off-off Broadway productions in and outside NYC and several Islands in the Caribbean. In addition to appearing in several films, television and radio dramas and the One-Woman play Garvey’s Wives, Jennifer is the comic relief in Patrice Johnson’s award winning independent film Hill and Gully. She is passionate about creativity, adapting to any challenge effortlessly. She produced and hosted her talk show “Jennbalaya” on Manhattan Neighborhood Network in 2017. DAVID LAMBERTON (FRANKIE / SGT. MAJOR MARNY) is a professional actor who moved to New York City following a career as a teacher and coach in Rhode Island. His credits include work off and off-off Broadway, Regional theatre, and Tours (Ukraine in Hamlet; Edinburgh Fringe in Safe); appearances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, the recently released feature film Monsters and Men, and several award-winning Indie films.
