Rehearsals are beginning in New York for the Big Apple showcase production of Its’ My Brooklyn, Too!, 2nd Act Players’ cofounder John N. Frank’s dramatic look at the American immigrant experience.
Cast and friends gathered in late September for their first reading of the script which begins at the 1960 New Year’s Eve party for the Smaldone family in Brooklyn.
Rehearsals are scheduled to start in mid-October with shows Dec. 6-8 and Dec. 13-15. The play will be done in a Brooklyn brownstone not far from Prospect Park.
The 2nd Act Players in 2019 produced its first New York show, holding a weekend of staged readings of Frank’s play The Institute at the high school where it took place in the 1960s, Xavier in Manhattan. Frank and cofounder Carolyn Calzavara spent a week in New York working with cast and crew to prepare for that show.
Rehearsals for Its My Brooklyn, Too! also are being held at Xavier, a wonderful example of the generous spirit of community and welcome that characterizes Xavier.
