Calling all playwrights for our #MeTooPlayFestival script competition

The 2nd Act Players will stage a #MeTooPlayFestival for two weekends this May and is holding a script competition to seek out short scripts for the festival that focus on women dealing with key 2nd Acts and major issues in their lives.

Playwrights are invited to send their short script (20 pages or less) for review by our competition judges. Six winning scripts will be chosen from entries and staged readings of them will be held the weekends of May 19-20 and May 26-27 at the 2nd Act Players’ theater in Northminster Presbyterian Church, Evanston. Simply click here to enter, there is no fee of any kind.

“Our 2017 short-script competition brought in so many amazing scripts we decided to do it again this year, but also to focus on issues women face. The headlines of sexual harassment and other abuse of women demand we look at these important issues this year,” says 2nd Act Founder John N. Frank.

Auditions for the cast to perform at the staged readings will be held in April. Aayisha Humphrey, who served as assistant director of the 2nd Act Players 2017 production Moving Boxes, has agreed to direct the staged readings this May.

“Aayisha is an amazing theater talent, I’m thrilled she’s agreed to take on this important project for us,” says Frank.

The competition is open to playwrights from across the Chicagoland area and to those who can trace their roots to Chicago. The entry deadline is March 15. For details, click here.
