Favorites selected for 2017 New Playwrights’ Showcase

The Lady in the Woods has been named the Judges’ Favorite while The Queen of Social Media was the run-away Fan Favorite for the 2nd Act Players’ 2017 New Playwrights’ Showcase staged Sept. 23-24.

The Queen of Social Media by Lawrence Keller looked at the online obsession of a new mother who opens a Facebook account for a two-day old baby, while The Lady in the Woods by Hyten Davidson showed how things are not always what they seem when a hermit breaks into a house in the woods on a cold winter’s evening.

“The plays were very different and showed the great range of works we presented in the showcase,” says 2nd Act Founder John N. Frank. “Although at their base, each of the winners dealt with men trying to cope with the difficult women in their lives, albeit in very, very different situations.”

Rounding out the audience’s top three picks were A Little Something by Jean Waller and Peter’s Ticket Booth by John N. Frank.

“The showcase was a great artistic success and the crowd Sunday was one of the largest we’ve had since moving into our theater at Northminster Church,” says Frank.

Davidson was headed to New York City immediately after the showcase to stage her play as part of the New York New Works Theatre Festival in October.
