Lane Wheeler got into acting because “it was an opportunity to be someone else, which gave me the chance to learn more about myself,” he says. His favorite role to date has been as a dead body in Lucky Stiff, a musical farce.
His dream role would be to play the legendary Cyrano De Bergerac. “to overcome a difference from the norm with style and bravado is cool,” he says.
Of his character Sheldon in ArLynn Leiber Presser’s Remembrance, Lane says, “he’s sassy but he cares.”
Lane plays one of only a small number of living people in Remembrance, a challenging task in a show devoted to looking at how we remember those we have loved and lost. But Lane is up to the challenge, having already portrayed Sheldon in an earlier production of Remembrance.
And the show is a family affair for Lane. He gets to act in the same show with daughter Starae while wife Sheila is stage manager for the show’s performances Jan. 29-31 at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center in Evanston.
