Texas theater to premier Frank play, “Boys in the Basement,” in June, 2023

2nd Act Players’ Cofounder John N. Frank’s play Boys in the Basement will premiere as part of the 2022-2023 season for the Creative Corner Community Theatre in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

This will be the first full production for Boys since Frank wrote, produced and acted in it at 2nd Act Players in 2015.

Boys in the Basement is where real divorce men give advice to other divorce men and sometimes it’s good advice but most times it’s not! A great show where real men can be real men!” is how the Texas theatre’s website describes the play. It will be done on Father’s Day weekend, 2023.

“I cannot wait to see this play on stage, it represents a time in my life long ago and presents one of the few stage looks at how men deal with the emotional pain of divorce,” says Frank.

The play follows the antics of a group of men living in one apartment building where they gather nightly in a basement meeting room to drink beer and share stories about women in their lives.

With the 2nd Act Players’ stage still dark because of Covid concerns, Frank has spent the first half of 2022 shopping his many scripts to other theaters. Four other plays he’s written have been accepted for online readings by four other theaters, but Boys will be the first on-stage production for one of his scripts.

“To all my Texas friends, I’ll see you near Fort Worth next June. Get your tickets early before they sell out,” Frank says.
