Director hired for 2nd Act Players’ 2017 New Playwrights’ Showcase

The 2nd Act Players has hired Genevieve Fowler to direct its 2017 New Playwrights’ Showcase which will take place Saturday, September. 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, September 24 at 3 p.m.

The festival will feature staged readings of six short scripts selected as winners of the 2017 2nd Act Players New Script Competition.

Fowler has directed plays, readings, and movement pieces through Vassar College, the National Theater Institute, and in various venues around Chicago. She holds a bachelor fo arts in drama and Greek & Roman studies from Vassar,

She was recently recognized for her direction of the devised piece Here Lies the Water/Here Stands the Man, for which she was awarded the Molly Thatcher Kazan Prize for distinction in the theater arts.
“We saw Genevieve direct an evening of staged readings at another local theater recently and enjoyed her work so much, we asked her to direct our festival,” says John Frank, cofounder and creative director fo the 2nd Act Players. “We know she’s going to deliver two nights of amazing entertainment.”

Staged readings feature actors reading scripts on stage rather than full productions of each play. Audience members will be asked to pick their favorite play after each performance.
