Talking with My Dad venue, dates set for November!
Six performances of “Talking with My Dad” will be scheduled for the weekends of Nov. 15-16 and Nov. 23-24 at the renowned Piven Theatre in Evanston, Il.
Evanston’s 2nd Act Players has a tentative agreement with Piven to rent its space for this fall’s production. This marks a return for the local theater troupe to the Piven space, where last year it staged its first show, “New Year’s Eve at Grandma’s House.”
“The black box theater at Piven is the perfect venue for the type of intimate, human dramas I write,” says playwright John N. Frank, author of “Talking with My Dad,” and “New Year’s eve at Grandma’s House.”

“When we performed there last year, the magic of the place transported me back to my grandmother’s house in Brooklyn circa 1960, the setting for that very personal family story,” Frank said.
“Piven is like home for us,” said Carolyn M. Calzavara, producer of “Talking with My Dad,” and a producer and cast member in “New Year’s Eve at grandma’s House.”
Frank and other members of the 2nd Act Players have studied acting at Piven, as well as at the Actors Training Center in Wilmette, Ill., where the core members of the troupe met in 2012.
Performances for the one-act play “Talking with My Dad,” the story of a man living in the shadow of his father’s death, will take place Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. Performances also are scheduled the following weekend on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 and 9 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 23, at 6 p.m.
Tickets will be made available to crowd-funding donors of the production first and then to the general public. To become a crowd-funding donor, go to: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/talking-with-my-dad/x/7227025
