The costumes for the 2nd Act Players’ fall premiere of New Year’s Eve at Grandma’s House are the most elaborate the theater has done in its five years in existence. 2nd Act Players’ Cofounder Carolyn Calzavara has made dresses for all the women in the Smaldone family who you’ll meet in our story.
The time as the play opens is 1960, a year that still looked back to the fashions of the 1950s rather than to ahead and the mod looks to come. Act II is set in late 1961, so fashions are changing thanks to John and Jackie Kennedy. Here’s Carolyn describing her inspiration for the costumes she created.
