Northminster Senior Pastor to join #MeToo Play Festival post-show discussions

Rev. Michael Dale Kirby, senior pastor of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Evanston, has agreed to take part in a post-show discussion of #MeToo issues at the 2nd Act Players #MeToo Play Festival on Saturday, May 26.

The festival, which features six 10-minute plays by emerging playwrights about issues relevant to the #MeToo movement, takes place May 19-20 and May 26-27 at Northminster where the 2nd Act Players perform. Tickets are available by clicking here.

Rev. Kirby began his ministry at Northminster in June 2015 after having been at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood on Chicago’s Southwest Side, where he served more than 11 years as pastor. His ministry there reached beyond Good Shepherd — into the neighborhoods of Chicago, in the Presbytery of Chicago and in leadership roles in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. (PCUSA).

He was on the team that drafted the authoritative interpretation and amendment to the Book of Order recognizing marriage equality that were approved by the PCUSA General Assembly in 2014.

Prior to beginning his ministry, Rev. Kirby was a commercial and appellate litigator in Houston and, as hiring partner and mentor at his law firm, oversaw the hiring and development of new attorneys. During his law career, he felt called to serve God vocationally.

Today, he is a member of the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus and a founding member of The Well, a group of progressive pastors across the United States that meets annually to discuss scripture, theology and the future of the church.

Rev. Kirby is the second announced guest speaker for the #MeToo Play Festival’s planned post-show discussions. K. Sujata, CEO of the Chicago Foundation for Women, will be taking part in a panel discussion at the festival on May 20, the first Sunday of the two-weekend event. Tickets are only $17 online, $20 at the event, buy online tickets by clicking here.
